Description
There are a number of micro-organisms that help plants to absorb nutrients. Rhizobium is an effective soil bacteria that fixes the atmospheric nitrogen in leguminous plants like Bengal gram, green gram, red gram, cowpea, soybean, etc. Since rhizobium cannot fix nitrogen independently, it makes a symbiotic association with plants by attaching itself to the roots of the leguminous plants and produce nodules. These nodules then fix the atmospheric nitrogen in the soil and convert it into ammonia which is absorbed by the legumes for its better yield and growth.
Benefit:
- Gives a 25 to 35 % increase in yield
- Adds nitrogen to the soil.
- Helps in increased plant growth.
- It exudes some allelochemicals that helps in resistance against various pests.
Recommended Crop:
Bengal gram, green gram, red gram, cowpea, soybean, etc
